Admire: Hollywood Summer Weddings!

We all know summer is the most popular time for weddings, and Hollywood weddings are no exception! It has been a summer filled beautiful weddings (and some drool-worthy dresses!) for celebrity couples all over the world, so here are a few of our favorites:

Most Luxurious: Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson

This long time couple finally said “I do” at San Ysidro Ranch outside of Santa Barbara, California. With both of their young children and a bevy of celebrities, this twosome celebrated under thousands of lights, candles and flowers. And in a custom Carolina Herrera dress no less! The bride was inspired by her favorite film, the 1998 film version of “Great Expectations” (what a wild choice!), but alas, photos are limited. We highly recommend you go pick up that issue of People Magazine because the actual photos are gorgeous!

Most Out-There Dress Choice: It’s a tie! Piper Perabo AND Olivia Palermo

Both of these stylish ladies rocked very unique wedding day styles. Actress Piper Perabo stunned in a metallic silver, leopard print Michael Kors gown with a yellow veil (what a combo!) during her New Orleans nuptials to director Stephen Kay. Surprisingly, with the mishmash of textures and colors, it all seems to go together! On the other hand, while style maven Olivia Palermo looked very traditional in flowy white, she revealed that this Carolina Herrera confection was actually all about comfort–she’s wearing shorts! Hard to notice those while she’s standing next to one divinely handsome groom–Johannes Huebel!

Best Take on a Traditional Dress: Cheryl Hines

While she was marrying political royalty, Cheryl Hines went for a whimsical take on traditional! For marrying Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Hines donned a cocktail length Romona Keveza dress with strappy metallic sandals.

Best Reunion at a Wedding (and coolest cake): Dave Coulier

Weddings are always a reunion of some type–family, friends, classmates, the list goes on! But Dave Coulier can brag he had a mini Full House reunion at his Montana ranch wedding to Melissa Bring. Doesn’t John Stamos make quite the dreamy guest? To top it off, look at this unique wedding cake made by the maid-of-honor’s mom!

Best Surprise Wedding: Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey

Having only recently ended an engagement 3 months prior, actress Naya Rivera shocked Hollywood by announcing she had married long time friend, actor Ryan Dorsey, in an intimate beach side affair in Cabo san Lucas. But she did manage to find the time to get her hands on a stunning, lacy Monique Lhuillier gown!

Best Tennessee Wedding: Kimberly Perry & JP Arencibia

Hollywood even makes it way out to Tennessee, folks! Singer Kimberly Perry married baseball player JP Arencibia in Greeneville, the bride’s hometown. Celebrities such as Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton trekked over from Nashville for the fete.

Maybe the Cheesiest, but Most Hilarious Wedding Photo Ever: Jeff Goldblum & Emilie Livingston

Yes, every wedding does have its share of cheesy and staged photos. But to capitalize on his “Jurassic Park” fame, actor Jeff Goldblum raised the stakes with this awesome pic:

Know: Wedding Dress Terminology–Silhouette

So CLD readers know that we obviously love the planning process… and that we love cake… but we also love fashion! But honestly, it is the rare occasion that we actually get to assist in the selection of the wedding dress 😦

Which is why it was so awesome that one of our upcoming brides sent us a ton of photos when she was torn between dresses! Of course, we were happy to assist and we are pleased to report she went with our suggestions. But we had so much fun talking about wedding dress styles, it got us thinking that it would be great topic to blog about! Dress selection is one of those things we suggest you start thinking about and working on fairly early in the process. Between ordering the correct size, alterations, and finding those perfect accessories, it takes a lot of time!

And to talk about the styles… there are hundreds of thousands of styles of wedding dresses! We got so caught up in the trying to explain our style preferences, we thought we’d help out our readers and pass along some basic wedding terminology that help you navigate the racks upon racks of wedding dresses. Check back often, we might make this a series because there is a lot to wade through!

We’ll start with the first word you need to know: Silhouette. This describes the basic shape of the dress and there are a few categories that dresses can fit into. We’ve included pictures of some runway looks and celebrity inspirations to get you started!

– A-Line: This has no clearly defined waist area, but flows downward to a flared skirt, creating that basic “A” shape.

– Ballgown: Cinderella alert! Usually the upper body is very fitted with a big skirt that is usually a bit on the poofy side.

Summer Celebrity Wedding Round-Up!

We all know that summer is one of the best and most popular time for weddings – and that notion goes not just for us mere mortals, but for celebrities too! But now that most of summer has slipped by, we are going to do a condensed round-up of our summer celebrity favorites.

Jimmy Kimmel & Molly McNearney

Funny-man Jimmy Kimmel married longtime girlfriend, and comedic writer, Molly McNearney at a beautiful estate in Ojai. While details have been sparse, the number of celebs in attendance was not! From Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner to Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, this guest was a who’s who of Hollywood! What we loved? That the couple stayed close to their humorous roots—the bride had good friend, actress Gabourey Sidibe, walk down the aisle in full bridal-gear before she did! Why not start your marriage off with a good laugh?

Keira Knightley & James Righton

The beautiful British bride married Klaxons keyboardist James Righton in a small, private ceremony in the south of France this past May. The fashionista shocked the wedding world when she sported a short, strapless tulle dress with flats, a cropped jacket, and a daisy-chain garland in her hair—all from Chanel, of course. But we loved that Keira stayed true to herself and kept her wedding attire comfortable, yet stylish. Even Karl Lagerfield deemed the dress, and the day, to be “perfect.”

Aaron Paul & Lauren Parsekian

Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul isn’t so bad after all! Paul married girlfriend, activist Lauren Parsekian, at Calamigos Ranch in May. The couple had a carnival-themed wedding, which featured a Ferris wheel, mimes, and magic by David Blaine. We loved that the groom made sure nearly every guest was involved, from having John Mayer serenade the bride with “Daughters” as she walked down the aisle, to having the entire audience sing along to a favorite song during the recessional. Way to keep the focus on your beautiful bride!

Celebrity weddings are an amazing resource for inspiration, which is why CLD is now going to feature our favorite celebrity weddings here on the blog at least once a month. We’d love to point out some of our favorite trends and styles, as well as some cool things that any couple can feature for their own fabulous day. We hope you enjoy!
