Indulge: Super Bowl Sunday!

Weddings may be CLD’s forte, but even we love to mix it up with other events. Case in point: Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner and CLD is definitely celebrating!

Hopefully your invites have already been sent, but we have a few great ideas if you are in need of last-minute inspiration. Football parties are traditionally on the more casual side, but that doesn’t mean that the food cannot be delicious! One way to satisfy a wide variety of tastes (and food allergies or diet preferences)? A small buffet that allows your guests to customize their treats.

A taco bar is easy to assemble: have a few large bowls of sautéed veggies with spices and different meats, then put out the assorted condiments alongside. Be sure to have the basics, like sour cream, a few salsas, some chunky guacamole, lime wedges, cilantro and black beans. Have both corn and flour tortilla taco shells for everyone to enjoy.

Another cool option? Pizza bar. To save time, order in a few large plain pies and ask them to be cooked slightly underdone and pre-sliced. Have out small bowls of a wide variety of toppings. Feel free to go beyond basic pepperoni and veggies, and maybe try prosciutto, pear wedges, gorgonzola crumbles or sundried tomatoes. Guests can assemble their own slices and you can finish them off in your oven for about 2-4 minutes at 400 degrees.

Finally, no CLD event would be complete without some original cocktails! We do not have any team allegiances here (as the Titans nor the Eagles made it this year), so we’ve come up with tasty treats for both teams.

Bucking Bronco

1 oz Pendleton Whisky

1 oz Fireball Cinnamon Whisky

0.5 oz lemon juice

1 oz soda water

Garnish with  lemon wedges!

Seattle Not-So-Skinny Vanilla Latte

3 oz cold coffee

1 oz half and half

1.5 oz Kahula or coffee liqueur

0.5 oz Vanilla vodka

These can be assembled ahead of time in individual mason jars and stored in the fridge. When guests arrive, put the jars out in a basket next to an ice bucket. Everyone can throw a few ice cubes into their drink of choice, then shake away and enjoy!

Pre-measure ingredients into individual mason jars.

No matter which team wins, CLD hopes all of our readers have a fabulous and safe Super Bowl Sunday!

Meet: Terian Farms, the pleasure is all ours!

Rolling, green fields … horses roaming in the pastures … a vision that has long filled the dreams of many a bride for her natural and whimsical wedding venue.  How about shifting that vision slightly and having ponies roaming in the pastures?  You are in luck, because we have you covered!

Recently, CLD was invited out to Lebanon, TN to see the lovely and charming Terian Farms, a destination originally known for boarding and training Hunter Ponies, that has recently decided to expand into the wonderful wide world of weddings and events!  The moment we saw the barn, reclaimed wood, rusted metal and spotted a beautiful pony playing games and entertaining herself in the pasture, we knew we were a great match!

As our followers know, we are HUGE on the juxtaposition of elements, and the job has been accomplished beautifully here at Terian Farms. Thanks to the big open fields surround the barn and main home, there are options to have smaller events for 30-50, or up to 200. This beautiful, blank canvas is great for those who want to make the space their own.  Of course, we always recommend hiring a planner when you’re working with a venue that asks you to bring everything in!  The last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is making sure the caterer got off the right turn and didn’t go into a farm down the road!

And then little bonus that comes along with Terian Farms?  The beautiful home on property is available for rent if you are out of towners or if you want to make a weekend getaway for a few of you!  It sleeps up to 8 and is the perfect proximity to retreat to during your wedding weekend!

Email us now if we can help you set up an appointment to see the farm!

Know: How many cameras does it take …

With media at our fingertips, people now feel the need to capture everything on film, or it’s almost as if it didn’t happen.  With Facebook posts and instagram, snapchat and vine, not to mention twitter we want everything to be captured and shared at a moments notice. I still remember when I thought “why would I need a camera on my phone?” And then I quickly realized the value when I would be out shopping and couldn’t decide whether a certain pair of shoes was right for an outfit!

And that is just regular, daily life.  So when it comes to your wedding, one of the most important days of your existence, it’s no wonder people go crazy over making sure everything is documented!  We want professional and amateur photogs alike to be recording the whole process, so here at CLD we have pulled together some of our fave options for wedding pics.

1. Professional Photographer
Obviously.  But please know how important this is – nothing take place of a real photographer.  Nothing.  They have experience and actually make their living doing this, so do not underestimate their value and why you need them NO MATTER WHAT.  No number of iPhones or aunts and uncles who hobby on the side as a photog can replace them. If I need to elaborate, please email me so I can virtually smack you in the noggin and remind you again why you need one.

2. Videographer
These guys are awesome.  Have you ever talked to someone involved in film?  I guarantee you, you will be hard pressed to find someone more passionate about what they do (or maybe that’s just because we’re partially based in LA and we know a lot of these peeps). Who doesn’t want their own romance film about their wedding?  With a highlight reel and music to fit the mood, videogs work hard to capture your feeling, and it is a wonderful addition to have. That said, it can also be pricey and is often looked at upon as a “luxury” item because you don’t “need” them.  We can also say we’ve never met anyone who weren’t happy they had one!

3. The Photobooth
Photobooths are not necessarily as “hot” as they were four years ago, but they are definitely not going away! These devices are a lot of fun for you to capture your guests having fun, for a cute guest book, and to provide a little entertainment as something for friends and family “to do” when their feet get tired from the dance floor.  Do your research.  Some are cool old school booths you go inside, some are pop-up tents, and others are referred to as “open air”, meaning you’re not enclosed but are standing in front of a backdrop with a photog taking the pics.  Prices can vary greatly, so make sure to investigate to figure out why and then choose the right one for you budget.  This is definitely not a place to blow your budget, there is something for everyone’s checkbook.

4. Twist on Photobooth
These are the new photo booths, that are switching things up from the standard.  From slow motion video clips to virtual graffiti walls, these are the “something unique” that is on the list after “something blue”.  Feel out your crowd and make sure this is the right group to participate: college buddies = yes, weddings full of elder family members = probably not.

5. The Smartphone
A must have, these guys come to a very small price from free to $100.  Of course, we all love instagram, so you could just create your own hashtag and make sure all your guests include it in every picture they post!  There are companies such as Wedding Snap and Capsule Cam where you can have your guests download the app, sign in, and take photos to share with everyone.  These are awesome for a wedding getaway when you have several days with people and want to share all your photos just with your group and download them when you get home.  No need to tag every person in the photo, everyone will see it who is logged in. This is so you can share those special moment!
Image

We know there are millions of options out there, so take a little time and do some research or hire someone to help you choose what is best for you and your budget to capture those priceless moments at your wedding.  Whatever you do, just remember that this is for fun and try not to get overwhelmed with all the options!

Meet: Barnyard Style Meets Los Angeles at Camarillo Ranch!

Barnyard-style weddings have become immensely popular over the last few wedding seasons! Now it is easy to envision a gorgeous barn wedding near the rolling hills and farms near our Nashville office in Tennessee–but what about next to the beaches, highways and skyscrapers of Los Angeles?

We were recently tasked with finding such a venue for one of our newest couples, and we think we hit the jackpot! Just about 30 minutes from the city center of downtown Los Angeles, heading north along the scenic Highway 101, is Camarillo Ranch. This historic venue provides a lush, sprawling estate with beautiful scenery and you guessed it: a perfect red barn!

There are 2 focal points of the ranch. The first is the house that sits on the property, an amazing Victorian style home. The home is available for cocktail hour, bridal prep, and pre-wedding photos for the bride and groom. But the grounds surrounding the home are a wonderful bonus! There are 3 different lawn spaces for an outdoor ceremony, from a smaller garden featuring a lovely gazebo to the vast open space of the front lawns that can seat a few hundred guests. The second main point is that big red barn, which can easily be transformed to suit a variety of visions for your reception. Adding soft lighting and vintage touches can create a rustic-chic feel; or keep things on the casual side for real country ho-down! The options at this venue are limitless.

We can’t wait to begin working with our new couple and the super helpful staff of the ranch! The wedding won’t be until 2015, but that gives us plenty of time to keep dreaming about all of the unique and fun things that could be done at Camarillo Ranch!

Admire: Holiday Hollywood Weddings!

While summer is usually the most popular season for weddings, this past December and New Years’ is proving to be just as busy for Hollywood! Here are some highlights of a few beautiful weddings that closed out 2013 and ushered in 2014!

Kaley Cuoco & Ryan Sweeting

Hollywood’s most talked about NYE wedding was easily the union of Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting. Hosted at Hummingsbird Nest Ranch in Santa Sosana, California (a venue we are dying to work at!), Cuoco walked down the aisle in a custom Vera Wang pink gown fit for a princess! The theme of the evening was “Fire & Ice,” featuring crystal chandeliers, white roses and hydrangeas, and white tree branches covered in christmas lights. The prize-piece of the event? A fabulous, upside down chandelier cake. Kudos to Kaley for planning such a stunning event in only 3 months time!

Justin Bartha & Lia Smith

The Hangover actor and his longtime love tied the knot in Oahu, Hawaii on January 4, 2014.  The couple were married close to the water at sunset and were joined by Hollywood friends Reese Witherspoon, Jesse Eisenberg and Ken Jeong. The reception followed at Kualoa Ranch. Wedding photos have been sparse, but we love this shot of the couple shortly after the wedding as they show off the awesome studded flats sported by the bride!

Vanessa Carlton & John McCauley

Of course being surrounded by family and close (celebrity) friends is a must for any Hollywood wedding, but how about having your wedding officiated by a celeb friend? Singer Vanessa Carlton and musician John McCauley did just that, having the incomparable Stevie Nicks officiate! The couple kept things low key, with the bride wearing a simple, long sleeved gown, holding a small bouquet, and donning a purple flower headpiece.

We’ll keep you updated on the great celeb weddings throughout 2014!

From NorCal to SoCal Sweethearts

The second my phone rang, I was hooked before we even spoke.  In fact, I answered with an atypical “hello?” versus my regular greeting, because I was so curious as to whom was on the other end of the line.

I am from a small town in Northern California (woot woot east bay!) and there is rarely a 925 number that calls my phone besides my mom, so I was at a loss as to who was calling. Emily and Karl, my future bride and groom, were college sweethearts from the excellent school Saint Mary’s College, that is centered in Moraga.  We instantly had tons to talk about, as it is a rarity to find someone who has even heard of Moraga.  I knew that this doe-eyed bride and I were going to get along beautifully!

And so it was, the sweet and colorful ceremony of a beautiful Montecito chapel, filled with a junior high girls choir from Emily’s school and groomsmen clad in gingham, set the perfect tone for this relaxed, sincerely in love couple.  It was a perfect day with friends and family, and we are so grateful to have been there!
